Snapchat is one of the best apps in 2016 to reach an engaged audience. In Snapchat you don’t call your audience followers. You should call them friends and the reason for that is really simple. My meaning is that an audience in Snapchat are more loyal and committed to you than on any other social platforms. Snapchat is a place where you can be even more creative, playful and really show off your personal side. By doing it more personal and at the same time interact with your audience you can gain more confidence and trust from your audience than on any other social media channels you have.
Play a lot with the tools to become better acquainted with them. This way you will know the limitations and the possibilities you have when you are ready to create and publish your own stories in Snapchat. Use a closed account for the first few days just to play around and learn more. When you understand Snapchat and the possibilities within it, then you should proceed to the next step in this article.
Make a plan for your account.
Sit down and plan what type of content you want to post. Give it a good thought and take notes on what direction you want to take your channel. Do you foresee a clean channel where you’ll just post advertising? Then I can say at once you will fail by doing so.

When it comes to making stories I say a good story is built up like a little short movie. Sketching up a storyboard in a note book for your Snapchat story is a smart move. Make a title for your story, an intro, the story and the ending. In this way your audience won’t get confused viewing your stories when you follow up with different type of content after that story.
My experience is also that quality is much better than quantity every time you make a snap or story. Also try to keep your stories within 5 to 20 snaps per day. If you make any stories longer people would just start to tap through it faster and then they miss out some good parts. Less is more, but it also really depends on what type of content you are sharing. Also try not to wait to long in between you posting content on your account (I say top 2 days). Why should a person follow you if you never post anything? Sit down and write a plan on when to post your content and stories. In that way your audience over time knows that there is soon something new to watch in your stories.
You are now ready to open your account for the public! You should also by now have uploaded a story to say welcome to all your new friends!
How to get followers?
People must find your channel. If you are part of a larger business or brand then it’s wise to promote it on your other social channels. Same goes if you’re a individual trying to get seen on Snapchat. One good way is to launch your channel with a competition exclusively on your Snapchat account. We all love a good contest! Another reason for giving your content that little extra is that people will begin to talk to their family, friends and colleagues about your account. And if people start talking, then you have done something right!
What do you mean exclusive?
The content you share should be exclusive for your Snapchat channel. Showing off a different side of your business/brand in your stories will make people feel it’s exclusive. They feel they are part of something special. Almost like being a part of a VIP club. So if you regularly show behind the scenes material, fun happenings or other similar content only on your Snapchat account you have understood what it takes to make your account exclusive.

Engage your audience!
Your followers are your friends and they really know what good content is or not. Feel free to post content where you sometimes ask followers for their opinion based on your story. People love to give feedback in Snapchat. If you have a question or a contest ask followers to snap you their own pictures from which you pick out a few selected ones and share them on your story. We all love some publicity! Also the feedback you get from your audience is really important. Listen to you audience like you would listen to your friends. Because they are your friends! With this feedback you know exactly what kind of stories to make more of in the future!
